The first ever publication from ESK is a unique book, and the first-ever such effort from any village in Kokan. The title itself is a word play implying – mother tongue or my dialect. And this book is a collection and a tribute to the Kadwai Kokani dialect, a variation of the Sangameshwari Kokani that holds resemblance to the various dialects spoken by the entire Kokan.

Hardbound and spread over 172 pages of sheer delight, comprising over 2100 words that are a part of the Kokani dialect, along with a Marathi pronunciation guide, and their meanings forms one part of this volume. These words are also interspersed with over 70 beautiful illustrations that offer a visual guide to some of the words mentioned on the pages.

Another part of this volume is a documentation of the cultural aspects of Kadwai. The wedding Geets sung a capella style by the women of Kadwai during the various rituals that a Kadwai wedding has, the Geets here are documented along with the occasions when they are sung. Besides, the book also has a collection of the bedtime tales that Kadwai’s grandmothers usually narrate to their grandchildren at bedtime. And there is another section on conversations or baatcheet that one can have in Kadwai – from asking for an address to a conversation between two friends, to discussing what’s cooking in the kitchen to conversing with a shopkeeper, this section offers a dialect guide to survive in Kadwai.
